A Norwegian Forest Cat can have almost any colour. Some of them are without any white, some are pure white and others have any amount of white in the coat.

We use a standard with codes, EMS code, to describe the colour and pattern for a cat. The code for Norwegian Forest Cat is NFO (Norwegian FOrest). Then there is one or more letters for the colour and ev a code for the pattern. Let's take a look at the EMS code.

The codes 21-25 are used to tell the kind of pattern. The different kind of patterns are blotched tabby, mackerel tabby, spotted tabby and ticked tabby. If you can't decide the pattern of the cat, then you use the code 21 for agouti. The code 21 is also used for agouti cats that are van and harlequin (see amount of white below), regardless if you know the patterna or not.

The codes 01, 02, 03 and 09 is used for all cats with different amounts of white in the coat. Still, it is not used for pure white cats, which is named with the code w.
